AI song prompt ideas and how to write them

A good AI song prompt names the genre, the mood, the kind of voice, one or two instruments, and what the song is about, in one or two sentences. For example: “An upbeat indie pop song with a bright female voice and jangly guitars, about moving to a new city.” Paste a prompt like this into USONG’s Inspiration Mode and you get two finished songs, usually in a minute or two.

How to use a prompt

  1. Write one or two sentences

    Use the formula above. In Inspiration Mode you have up to 500 characters, which is plenty.

  2. Want exact lyrics? Use Custom Mode

    Paste your lyrics, then put genre, mood, voice and instruments in the style field (up to 1,000 characters on V4.5 and newer).

  3. Compare and adjust

    Listen to the two versions. If it’s not right, change one thing at a time: the genre, the tempo or the voice.

Tips for better results

  • Be specific about the story. “Driving home after a night shift” gives the lyrics more to work with than “a song about life”.
  • Name one or two instruments, not ten. A short, clear prompt usually works better than a long list.
  • In your own lyrics, label sections in square brackets on their own lines: [Verse 1], [Pre-Chorus], [Chorus], [Bridge], [Outro].
  • Words outside square brackets are sung, so keep notes and instructions out of the lyrics and put them in the style field.
  • Lyrics can be up to 5,000 characters on V4.5 and newer models (3,000 on V4).

What makes a good AI song prompt?

Name the genre, the mood, the kind of voice, one or two instruments, and one concrete thing the song is about. One or two sentences is enough.

How long can a prompt be?

In Inspiration Mode, up to 500 characters. In Custom Mode, the style field takes up to 1,000 characters and lyrics up to 5,000 characters on V4.5 and newer models (3,000 on V4).

Should I use tags like [Verse] and [Chorus]?

Yes, when you write your own lyrics. Put each label in square brackets on its own line. They help shape the structure of the song.

Can I name a famous artist in my prompt?

Describe the sound instead: the genre, the era, the voice and the instruments. That avoids imitating a real person.

Can I make instrumental music?

Yes. Turn on Instrumental in Inspiration Mode or Custom Mode before you create.
